Celebrating reading

23 April World Book and Copyright Day Contest

"Literacy is the door to knowledge, essential to individual self-esteem and empowerment. Books, in all forms, play an essential role here. "
Irina Bokova
23 April is a symbolic date for world literature. It is on this date in 1616 that Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors, such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.
It was a natural choice for UNESCO's General Conference, held in Paris in 1995, to pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors on this date, encouraging everyone, and in particular young people, to discover the pleasure of reading and gain a renewed respect for the irreplaceable contributions of those, who have furthered the social and cultural progress of humanity. In this regard, UNESCO created the World Book and Copyright Day.

We are pleased to invite you to post the name of the book you enjoyed best when you were a child and why.
The best description before April 30  will get a price!!!

    El principito.
The story is about a boy who travels around the universe. In his travel he discovers the adults' world: the kings, the vain men, the businessmen, the drinkers, the geographers and the lamplighters. When he arrives to the Earth he meets a fox who teaches him the importance of things that become the best and the uniques. They must be taken care of. The little Prince meets an aviador. They become friends. The little prince opens the Aviator's door of thinking and shows him how trivial are the adults. I like this book because it shows how empty and shallow we become when we grow and also the big importance of little things that the adults lose. The best phrase of this book is: the essential is invisible to the eyes.

"Marked" The house of Night by Kristin Cast
I was buying a book for my cousin and the girl that works in the library recommended me "Marked" so I bought it for me, not for my cousin.
When I started to read it I didn't like it very much but after a while I loved it.It's about friendship, love and vampires. Zoey, the main character, is marked, so she has to become a vampire. When she leaves school and enter to the new vampire school "The house of Night" Zoey realizes that she is different from the others vampires. She has unique powers and that is good but it also could damage her.
When I went to bought the second book I thanked the girl for the recommendation and for creating a new obssesion in me. Now I'm reading the book number 11 from that saga and I just can't wait to read the last one!

    "La Selección"- Kiera Cass
In fact I haven't a favorite book, but "The Selección" woke up in me the love for the books, for this reason is so important to me. I was in seventh grade and a friend recommended me it. The first book I read in one day, and then I completed the saga in one week.
The book is about a girl that became a princess. The book mainly talks about the love, but also speaks about other topics like friendship or the different social classes.
Now when I am in a bookshop I spend hours looking the books and sometimes I enjoy rereading the book.
I hope that the author continues the saga but is obvious that it won't do it.

    "Secretísima Virtual"

The book is about a virtual relationship that started between two teenagers, who don't reveal their names but are hidden behind nicknames: Secretísima virtual and XW. They started to talk through emails, even they formed a friendship. These friends created a pact in which they promised not be seen in person. But later it became very difficult because they started to fall in love. So they came up blind dates for a long time, until they broke the pact and they met in person.
It was my favorite book when I was in primary because I imagined that teenagers had these kind of "adventures" like virtual romances, emails, letters and more ..

  20. My favourite book is "Daughter of Smoke and Bone", by Laini Taylor. It is about a girl called Karou, who has a misterious life for all the people who is around her. She desapears for long periods of time because her "stepfather" Brimstone, who is a quimera, sends her to diferents worlds to get theeths, but she doesn't even know why does he need them, or what is him working on. Her and her family's life are in danger, serafines and quimeras are in war. Karou meets a serafin called Akiva, they fall in love, but their worlds are opposed because of the battle. But Karou has a previous life, she doesn't remember that, but she'll know everything about it with the pass of time, she will discover everything that Brimstone was hiding from her. Well, this isn't the end, there are two more books about this.
I like this book because fantasy books are my favourite ones, and i like to imagine all the things that happened in that war. Also the strange relationship between Akiva and Karou, it's like a love-hate relation, it's confusing sometimes, when you don't know if they love or hate eachoter.

    ¨Fan girl¨

The book tells the coming–of–age story of two twins who grew up in the world of internet fandom. The main protagonist, Cath, is one of the most successful fan–fiction author on the 'Simon Snow' archive (which shares a lot of its elements with the Harry Potter series). Having grown up without a mother, Cath grows up to be a very introverted girl, being overly attached to her twin sister who serves the role of both her best friend and only link to a social life. This however changes when both girls decide to move away from home for uni and decide not to share rooms. Now being separated from her only source of comfort, Cath must face the life of a freshman in uni, dealing with anxiety, a rude room mate and her room mate's hyperactive 'boyfriend' who just won't leave her alone.
I like this book because it´s a must–read for any teenage girl going through any kind of change, as it explores many themes, from the fear of making new friends, to the change of relationships with people, as you move on in life. It explains the importance of not changing yourself but growing.

    "The Hobbit"
This book is simply amazing. The Hobbit tells us the story of Bilbo Baggins, a solitary Hobbit who, after the appeareance of the wizard Gandalf, finds himself working as a sort of looter for a group of dwarfs whose quest is to recover their civilisation's treasure from the dragon Smaug.
Joining the typical hero who matures as the chapters progresses with a fantastic world with dozens of creatures and fascinating places to imagine plus Tolkien's amazing storytelling stick together to grant a memorable experience.
    10/10. Would read again.

When it was small I was charmed with all the stories on princesses, but my princesses' favorite story was Cinderella since when tape-worm between five and seven years saw the movie often.
Cenienta is a history that tells that a girl when his mother dies still has with his father. To a little time his father to marry a lady that tape-worm two daughters.A few months later his father died and Cinderella had to remain with his stepmother and step-sisters.The family that Cinderella still had was treating her very badly, they were making it clean all the parts of the house and were using her as maid
