A teacher I'll never forget.

The teacher I remember most is Miss Betty, an English teacher of second year in high school. I think she was the best teacher that I had in all my life. She was always kind and sensitive. She used to help me every time I didn't understand something or I got into trouble. However she used to get angry when nobody did the homework.
I remember she loved talking about her grandson and telling us some funny stories. She was very intelligent and modern. She always would wear make up and beautiful clothes. My mates and I used to see her photographs and I used to show her my pet's pictures because she loved animals. Every time that she caught me drawing in class, she used to ask me to draw something for her.
She was like a second grandmother for me.
She was an excellent teacher for me and I'll never forget her and her lovely personality

Ciclo de encuentros: Intercambio de experiencias en el aula ('Education Exchange')

Por tercer año consecutivo la Escuela  Normal Superior N° 1 en Lenguas Vivas “Pte. Roque Sáenz Peña” ofrece un ciclo de sesiones de desarrollo profesional para la enseñanza de las lenguas extranjeras, en esta oportunidad con las docentes becarias del Ministerio de Educación G.C.A.B.A. y Comisión Fulbright, Marina Wagemaker y Jennifer Abbate.

Marina Wagemaker is a Fulbright scholar in Buenos Aires working with elementary English teachers in the BA public school system until July 2014.  Marina is from North Carolina, United States. She graduated from the University of North Carolina Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Marina has been an English teacher in Mexico and South Korea. She has taught 2^nd grade in North Carolina and is currently a Spanish teacher to PreK - 5^th grade students. Marina has led professional development in the US for ‘Discovery Education’.

Jennifer Abbate is a 2014 Fulbright Scholar teaching English in public schools in the city of Buenos Aires.  Jennifer has been a bilingual teacher for seven years in public and private schools in New York and California.  Jennifer has a Masters degree in Bilingual Education from Columbia University, as well as a Bachelors degree in Spanish Language and Culture from the State University of New York.  Jennifer's interests and expertise include: whole brain teaching and learning, reading comprehension and fluency, writer's workshop, and diversity and inclusivity training.

Encuentro 1: “Thinking maps: 'What are they and how to use them'”
Fecha: martes 6 de mayo - Horario: 13.00 a 14.30 hs.  

Resumen: In this session you will learn about eight research-based thinking maps, which can be used to teach any concept in any language. Each map is linked to a specific thought process. By connecting a concrete visual design with a specific abstract-thought process, students create mental visual patterns for thinking. Using thinking maps in the classroom help promote: learner-centered and collaborative learning, concept development, reflective thinking, creativity, clarity of communication, and continuous cognitive development.

Encuentro 2: “Recordable Books”
Fecha: jueves 8 de mayo - Horario: 13.00 a 14.30 hs.    

Resumen: In this session you will learn about an activity that can be used to improve oral reading fluency.  Through this activity, students will be able to practice their expression and volume, phrasing, smoothness, and pace.  You will leave this session knowing how to implement this project with your students in your own classroom.
Encuentro 3: “Engaging Classroom Games”
Fecha: martes 13 de mayo - Horario: 13.00 a 14.30 hs.

Resumen: In this session you will learn about different games that you can implement in your classroom to increase student engagement. The examples will be presented and modeled for using in an English class, but the games can be adapted for any language.

Visit to the Embassy of the United Satates of America

On Wednesday 9 April, the U.S. Embassy in Argentina conducted the first event of the series "English@theEmbassy" and we had the privilege to be invited. Students in 2nd and 3rd year participated in the event which lasted three hours interacting with native speakers. 

We enjoyed an interactive presentation on the relevant aspects of the culture of the United States through its celebrations and festivities in charge of Cultural Affairs assistant Mark Naylor. In addition, we received a guided tour of Bosch Palace, current residence of the Ambassador of the United States, by U.S. diplomats. The event also included a series of presentations that highlighted the importance of learning the English language, by the Acting Deputy Chief, Tim Stater, as well as by Daniel Politi, editor of the Buenos Aires Herald.

PROGRAMA DE MICRO-BECAS DE INGLÉS “ACCESS”

Dirigidas a: Alumnos de escuelas de gestión estatal de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, de entre 13 y 17 años de edad, escolarizados durante los dos años que dure el Programa. Se aceptan postulaciones de alumnos con nivel elemental e intermedio de inglés.

Incluye: El curso de inglés, clases de laboratorio de idioma, materiales de estudio, actividades culturales y de voluntariado comunitario, acceso a la Biblioteca Centro Lincoln, y estipendio mensual para viáticos.

Requisitos:

·         Ser alumnos de escuelas de gestión estatal de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires.

·         Tener entre 13 y 17 años de edad.

·         Tener buen desempeño académico y promedio general de 8 o más en el ciclo lectivo 2013.

Always follow your dreams!!!

How I followed my dream

When I was at kindergarten, I saw some of y classmates carrying the flag and one day I asked a teacher how I could carry it. She said to me “you have to be a great student, get the best marks and be responsible”. I couldn’t carry the flag at kindergarten because I had some problems of behaviour.

At primary school I started to follow this advice, but I had to wait six years to carry the flag. I remember the 20^th June 2007, the first day I did it. It was one of the happiest days in my childhood. I carried the flag again in the last celebration of that year.

When I started the secondary school, I remembered that advice again. These five years were very long, and I made a big effort every day to achieve my aim. Every day it was more difficult than the day before, but fortunately in December 2012, I was chosen to carry the flag because I had the best average mark. I was very happy with this news because I’d carry the flag in my last year of the Secondary School.

Now, I’m ending my last year at school and I can say “I have followed my dream and I have made it real”, and it’s beautiful!
