Advertising the book

Dear Readers,     

Hi, I’m writing you because I’ve heard you want to read a book but you don’t have idea which book you could choose. So, I’m going to talk about a book I liked very much!. Have you heard about 1984?. If you haven’t, I’ll tell you about it. It is a book written by George Orwell.

I recommend the book because it’s very simple to read. The book has only a few chapters and it isn’t so hard to go through. It has a simple but beautiful plot. But, I wan’t tell you everything about the story. It’s about things that could have happened in 1984. At that moment, the people were watched every time by telescreens and so, they didn’t have any private moments.

 If you like this kind of story, I guess you will read the book. There are many characters, but Winston and Julia are my favorite. Winston is the character that appeared many times in the book, he works in the “Ministry of Truth”. He meets a woman called Julia and, then they become lovers. They have to face the context they live because, in that moment, the sex is only por procreating and they have sex for love.

1984, has political ideas, fights and a little story of love, in a world where the lie and corruption are very common.

 Finally, I liked the book very much so I highly recommend it. I’m sure you will love it!

WInston´s diary

"March 22nd

This is the first time I write in months. I can't really remember how many, but it seems like it has been a while. Strangely, my old diary wasn't with the rest of my stuff at my new home, but I don't really mind. It's a really nice place; although there is no hot water yet, "the supervisor" (someone they said would help me moving in) said they were working on it. That was like two months ago. They must have a lot of requests."

Winston stopped writing for a second and looked around. His new house was way smaller and the wallpaper was rotting away. On a dirty corner, a rat came out of a hola, crossed the living room and exitted through a broken step of the old stairs. Without showing much interest in the vermin, he kept writing:

"I like what they did to my office in the Ministry of Truth. They replaced the machine that throwed newspapers for a telescreen that shows me when the truck with the newspapers arrived. That way, I know when I have to go down the eight floors and lift the boxes back to my office to continue working. A member of the party came in the other day and told me that starting next week I would have to deliver the correct newspapers back down as well, but that's alright. Working keeps me entertained. I can't remember why or how, but I realize it's best not to think too much about the reason you have to do more work each day, but rather get it done fast."

He stopped writing again. Today's newspaper was lying on the table. In big, black letter could be read "We are now in war against Eurasia". Reading today's newspaper made Winston feel better and almost forget his broken ribs. He liked war. It kept him from thinking too much about other things.

A letter from Julia to Winston just after their last meeting in the park.

Dear Winston,

                         I hope you are prepared to read this letter although perhaps you don't want to know anything about me. I was really in love with you, but after going through this pain I realized that I felt you weren't in love with me anymore. That's why I betrayed you, I had a mixture of feelings. I didn't know how you felt. I  still loved you ...., I  felt disappointed. However, I understood the reason why you decided to betray me, so I forgive you. 

When this entire nightmare started, I was so scared and horrified that I told them that you should be the one punished and not me.

We had gone through the same fortune. The day we had our last meeting in the park, I was going to apologyse but I couldn't, I didn't have the courage to do it.

I hope that you forgive me, forget about our past relationship together and move on.

I know that both of us have discovered that the only one we love is Big Brother. By this letter I sumption that this is the end of us and we must continue with our lifes....
 I hope you are doing well and that you are living a happy life.

I also want to thank you for being such a good person to me and for making me experience many things like love and happiness. I will treasure our memories till the day I die.

Melina- Hello! Good Morning Buenos Aires, here we are in another day of news Marina- We've got a lots of news this morning Luciana- Winter has come, and it won't go away. The low degrees are going to stay until next Friday Melina- The most important news of today: an elephant has escaped out of the zoo, be careful...its a BIG problem, isnt it? Luciana-second news, there was a robbery in a bank. The burglars have not been caught yet Marina-Oh, and there was a murder in a house outside of the city. The police recognized him like Charles Darrell, Robert Frenchl s neighbour. Luciana-the police suspects of Mr French; but there was a thief in the village too... the police still investigating Melina- The village talks and most people thinks that Charles had a lover, neighbors told us that maybe he was going to marry with Mr French's wife! Marina-maybe was a crime of passion, you know… Melina-I dont think so Luciana-in other news, Bella, the zoo's tiger is going to have babies, two little furry balls

MAY REVOLUTION

Friday, May 25 1810

The people gathered in front of the Buenos Aires Cabildo

On the morning of May 25, in spite of bad weather, a crowd gathered in the Plaza de la Victoria, as did the militia led by Domingo French and Antonio Beruti. They demanded the recall of the Junta elected the previous day, the final resignation of Cisneros, and the appointment of a new junta that did not include him. Historian Bartolomé Mitre stated that French and Beruti distributed blue and white ribbons, similar to the modern cockade of Argentina, among those present. Later historians doubt it, but consider it possible that the revolutionaries used distinctive marks of some kind for identification. It was rumored that the Cabildo might reject Cisneros' resignation. Because of delays in issuing an official resolution, the crowd became agitated, clamoring that "the people want to know what is going on!".

We have also mended the books that were in bad conditions and numbered them to keep them in order.

We are taking note of the books and the other materials borrowed so that we can have a better control over them.   

And soon we will have our readers even more organized with  the  little help of  a library software!

I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives.

6. Together is better.

I value other people’s strengths, and learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different from me. I work well in groups. I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than any one of us alone. I am humble.

7. Take care of yourself.

I take care of my body by eating right, exercising, and getting sleep. I spend time with my family and friends. I learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just at school. I take time to make meaningful ways to help others.
